Harnessing the powers of color: An introduction to color magick
Welcome to our Spell Book here at MoonCrafted Essentials. We are a family business of witches who make handmade ritual bath products and invocation candles while helping mystical people learn and embrace their love of magick and the moon.
Do you have a favorite color? Are there colors that make you smile, feel happy, or conversely feel sad? Welcome to color magick! If it’s as simple as a favorite red lipstick or shirt you’re wearing on a date (hello colors of passion and seduction) or wearing bright sunny colors in protest of the hundredth cloudy day in a row, you practice color magick.
The thing I love most about color magick, like kitchen magick, is it is something we use every day, often without even realizing it. It’s woven into the fabric of our daily lives just by virtue of simple choices made throughout the day. You probably practice more witchery than you think.
What is it?
Color magick is utilizing the spectrum with the intentions and vibrations of each color to invoke a magickal response. You can utilize it anywhere. Home decor, wardrobe, gift wrapping, candles, soaps…anywhere you intentionally choose to place color in your life can have meaning and intent. The most common form of color magick is with candles, by using specific colored candles to direct and boost the intent of a spell or ritual. For example, a green candle for money or a red candle for love.
Going further…
While colors have general meanings assigned, please remember that the primary magickal tool that leads everything is YOU. The way a color speaks to you specifically may be different than the generally accepted definitions, and that’s okay. Grey is a very positive color for me and I dislike yellows and oranges due to their overwhelming intensity, so my color choices for rituals and spells will be very different than my very perky neighbor who loves to wear yellow, orange, and pink all the time because they make her happy. It’s all up to the individual.
The meanings of color
Red: passion, love, fire, warmth
Orange: creativity, fire
Yellow: happiness, joy, vitality
Green: earth, abundance, prosperity
Blue: calming, peace, protection
Purple: intuition, spirituality, power
White: purification, cleansing…remember on the spectrum white is a reflection of all color
Black: protection, warding…remember on the spectrum black is a combination of all colors
