Liking or honoring the 13th isn’t restricted to modern day pagans, it’s been in our history for quite some time. In many pre-Christian cultures, Friday is linked to a day of worship. In many pagan societies, it’s the day to receive blessings from the gods. Many pagan cultures chose this 6th day of the week (Friday) to celebrate and honor their gods/goddesses for the gifts they had received in the days prior and to petition their chosen deity for favor in the days of the coming week.
Animals have long been connected to the metaphysical world. Tribes all over the globe have imbued and invoked the power of animals to guide, protect, and strengthen for millennia. Witches have used familiars to ground and amplify magickal workings for centuries. In short, animals have been considered powerful allies in both the mundane and magickal worlds for as long as time has been recorded.
I consider myself to be a modern Pagan Animist. I believe there is divine energy all around us; infusing everything we see and cannot see. Science is beginning to study, define, and acknowledge that what many pagans and spiritualists have felt for a long time...
I refuse to let my mental health rule my life. I have survived and will continue to do so. I try to exercise regularly, eat a (mostly) whole food diet, and get consistent sleep. I realize that the key to happiness for me is finding balance. I understand that life truly is about flowing, natural rhythms and I need to go with the flow or be dragged under. There is nothing wrong with craving pizza and cupcakes, just be moderate and balance it out. There is nothing wrong with having a lazy morning off and staying in bed late, just be sure to take a walk after breakfast and get moving.
Each phase of the moon draws different energies and vibrations for us to use. Each phase can be linked to it's own specific spell or ritual, or you can begin a working that requires time to build or diminish that follows through many phases. It all depends on what you need.
Practitioners of metaphysics, supernatural, or spiritual energy acknowledge the power both within and around us. The Chakra points have energy and physical correspondences that can help focus meditation, thought, and magick. Whether you are a believer in the Eastern or Hindi Philosophies or simply want to use a predesigned system as a focus for your own energy, knowledge of the Chakras and what they relate to can be supremely beneficial.
I racked my brains for something to write about this week. Beltane is just behind us. The Next Sabbat and Esbat celebrations are (in my opinion) too far out in the calendar to start with. So I spent days (no, really) looking around my house for inspiration. Then it hit me, many of you probably feel the same way! MoonCrafted Essentials formed from the desire to bring magick back into our daily lives. Why is this so hard? For me, common things around me just fade into the background. So I am going to help you find the magick literally in your everyday surroundings.
The beginning of summer begins an important time, for surviving winter is a difficult journey and weariness and a soul deep hunger has set in. In times past the food stocks were low; variety was a distant memory. The drab grey and muddy brown of winter's end perfectly represents the dullness and fatigue that permeates our lives even to this day.
This year the April full moon falls on the 30th. In my neck of the woods, we recently were gifted with about a foot of snow so Spring and growth is a little hard to think about. Now, whether or not Mother Nature is having a tantrum, the April Growing Moon is all about…you guessed it, growth.
I am sure many of you have spent time pouring over beginner’s books and internet articles on the best way to start your journey. This is not that kind of post. I can’t tell you the best way to do anything in your spiritual life. Only you know what is right for the path you are on. What this post is going to do, is help set up your sacred space. Bonus, I am not going to tell you to buy anything!
Magick is all about intent. The trappings and drama are never necessary, you determine the source of the magick around you and utilize the natural energies of the world that are there whether you use them or not. Remember, all you need is a focused mind and as little as five minutes.
The return of the sun, of warmth, of green leaves and birdsong; springtime is something everyone who deals with cold, bleak winters dreams about. It is a time of promise, change and cleansing. Spring magick can take many forms. Simply basking in the sun and taking simple enjoyment of its heat and the life it brings can be enough. A ritual bath to clear away the dark lethargy of winter can be a great idea. Pick soaps with bright citrus or floral smells to wake your mind or remind you of flowering fields. Something with exfoliation to it wakes up the skin while scrubbing away what is no longer vital. Candle meditations embrace the fire and heat of the sun and place it at the tips of your fingers.
